Elizabeth A. “Betty” Putnam of Wells Maine and Fort Myers Beach Florida passed away on Thursday, June 14th at Durgin Pines in Kittery, after a brief illness. Betty was born in 1925 to Walter and Mary Sheridan of Marlborough, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband Dick in 2008. She and Dick were married in 1950 and lived in Marlboro until he retired from Mass Electric Company in 1978. They moved to Moody Beach in 1978, where they had summered and owned property for many years. They wintered together in Fort Myers Beach until Dick’s illness, and Betty continued to do so up until two years ago.

Betty was a volunteer in many endeavors, especially in her churches in Wells Maine and Fort Myers Beach. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for several years in Marlborough, Mass. Betty was a founder and member of the Laudholm Trust in Wells and volunteer at Habitat For Humanity in Americus Georgia, where she and Dick spent 11 winters. She also enjoyed music and was a member of the Sweet Adelines.

Betty is survived by her daughter Carol Putnam Goldman and husband Wayne of Bristol, Rhode Island, her son Donald Putnam and wife Marilyn of Clearwater, Florida, two grandsons, Daniel and his wife Christine of Safety Harbor, Florida and Brian Putnam and his wife, Paula Cerqueira of Norfolk, Mass. She was predeceased by her son Jack Putnam who died at age 23 in 1976. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ginny Putnam of Cape Porpoise Maine and nieces and nephews, Eileen Worthley and husband Robert of Cape Porpoise Maine, David Putnam and wife Patricia of Kennebunk, Nancy Wall and husband David of York and Tom Putnam and Phyllis Wentworth of Arlington, Mass. She had three great grandchildren, Eva and John Putnam of Safety Harbor, FL and Jack Putnam of Norfolk, as well as nine grandnieces and nephews. She also had many wonderful friends and neighbors in Maine and Florida.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells, ME.
