You Have a Lot to Live Up To...

Sandy and I are the present owners of the former Hewitt Cottage at Alton Bay Christian Conference Center.  We enjoyed renting the cottage many summers, once we found it, because it fit our family needs so well.  On a couple of occasions we were privileged to meet the owners, Rev. Bob and Ellen.  A sweet couple!  One of the blessings, in the first days of ownership, was to discover that the table we still use in the kitchen was made in our hometown, Wallingford, CT.  They must have bought it when they pastored in Waterbury.  We said, "This must be a sign from the Lord that we bought the right cottage and will be blessed here"...and we have.  But the thing that stands out in my mind was the statement of a fellow campground resident who stopped outside the cottage one day, shortly after we move in, and simply said, "You have a lot to live up to, spiritually, as new residents of the Hewitt cottage.  What a nice tribute to Ellen and Pastor Bob, and challenge to us.  I think of the awesome responsibility that was cast upon us because of the legacy left by Ellen and Bob.  Proverbs 10:7b says, "The memory of the righteous is blessed."  May those memories sustain you along with God's comfort in the coming days.

God's Peace,

Glenn and Sandy Havumaki
