THE RACE CAR DRIVER

I am a cousin of Roger and have a few vague memories of the time when Roger owned and drove several sports cars and even drove the 'Gritzbach' in weekend raceing circuit on tracks around the northeast. The above photo shows Roger with his young cousin (yours truely) at a race track in Kingston, NY. Roger was a very smart driver, he always stayed in the back of the pack knowing that half of the cars would not finish the race due to crashes or engine problems and he would claim a higher finish. That was smart thinking. I still remember rides in the blue 1964 Corvette Sting Ray converible and the wire-wheeled 1954 MGTD that once lost a wheel while Roger was driving alone at the time. Fortunately he was not injured. To this day I am a classic sports car owner and enthusiast attributable to Roger's influence during my youth.

Amazing that Roger turned in his racing suit for doctor's scrubs. This is just one of the many memories that I have of a truely amazing person (my cousin) whom will deeply miss.
